About Me

I am studying Computer Information Systems because I find technology fascinating. I come from a family with a strong background in engineering and technology. My grandfather worked as an engineer in the automotive industry, and my father built a career in telecommunications. My father’s work had a direct influence on my interest in technology, especially hearing about the systems and infrastructure he worked with. I always found it fascinating when he would tell me about setting up satellite connections so oil companies could make bids on plots of land for drilling.

My interest in computers and technology definitely started at a young age, and I have always viewed technology and science as tools that can be used to better humanity. That is probably one of the reasons I love Star Trek so much. What I enjoy about technology is the feeling that there are almost endless possibilities. There is always another problem to solve, something new to discover, or something I do not understand yet that I can learn more about. I like that you can dive deeply into an area of technology, experiment with it, and keep learning until something that once seemed unfamiliar starts to make sense.

I am interested in many different areas of IT, but right now I am especially interested in infrastructure and learning more about the backend systems that our society depends on. Eventually, I would like to develop my skills enough to become a cloud security engineer. One thing I want to get better at is taking large technical problems, breaking them into smaller pieces, and developing a plan for solving and testing each part. I want that kind of thinking to eventually become more instinctive whether I am troubleshooting a system, programming, testing something, or building something new.

Outside of college, I enjoy playing video games, traveling, hiking, and camping when I have the opportunity. Gaming has also crossed over into my interest in programming. I have experimented with making a few small choose your own adventure games in C++, which gave me another way to use what I was learning and turn an idea into something that actually worked.

I am also proud that I have continued working toward my education and have not given up on it. I think of the skills I am developing as a craft. I do not expect to become good at something just because I studied it once. I want to keep practicing, experimenting, making mistakes, building things, and gradually taking on more difficult problems.
