Welcome to my profile

Introduction

Thanks for coming to my profile. My name is Jonathan. I am a Computer Information Systems student and am on track to graduate in March 2027 from Des Moines Area Community College. I have moved quite a few times throughout my life, and I enjoy discovering new places and new things. Moving has taught me how to adapt to new environments and become more comfortable with the idea that growth and opportunity can sometimes be uncomfortable. I have learned that once you get through that discomfort, the experience and resilience you gain can make it worth it.

The purpose of this website

I want this site to be a place where I can show, test, and grow my skills in a live environment while gaining experience using real tools in realistic scenarios. I want people who visit to find projects that are interesting and maybe even capture their imagination, even when the idea behind them is simple. More importantly, I want the work here to show that I am actively cultivating real technical skill instead of only learning privately and never building things that other people can actually see and use.

This website will serve as a portfolio for the work I complete throughout this course. Instead of finishing assignments and leaving them stored in separate folders, I can use the site as one place to organize my work and show how my skills develop over time. Some of the earlier projects may be more basic because they are focused on learning specific concepts, but I think that still has value. Being able to look back at older work gives me a way to compare where I started with how much I have progressed later. As I learn new tools and become more comfortable with web development, I can also return to earlier parts of the site and improve them rather than treating each assignment as something completely separate.

We started with HTML and CSS, and now we are moving into Bootstrap, JavaScript, and eventually server-side development. Being able to apply those skills to the same website helps connect the different parts of the course and makes the work feel more practical. By the end of the class, I want the site to show both the projects I completed and the progression of my technical skills over time. My goal is for it to remain useful after the course is finished and continue developing into a stronger portfolio as I gain more experience.
